STILWATER, OK— (July 13, 2015). Red Dirt International Film Festival has announced a new location for this year’s two-day event: The historic Stillwater Community Center in downtown Stillwater. This will mark the third year that this film festival has brought filmmakers from around the world together in Oklahoma, and the new location will accommodate growing audiences.

Since its start in 2013, the film festival has screened and exhibited more than 100 movies from all seven continents with special categories for Oklahoman and international filmmakers. The growing popularity of the film festival has led to an unprecedented number of film submissions this year, and screeners must carefully consider each film for acceptance to the competition.

“Eighty-five percent of what we get is excellent,” said Damon Blalack, executive director and co-founder of Red Dirt International Film Festival. “Sometimes you have to cut something that is amazing to maintain the overall balance against all the other films that are selected.”

Film festivals are an important part of how independent film makers find distribution for their work, and they provide a venue for Oklahoma’s growing film industry. Founders Damon Blalack and Marisa Ferrell also work to educate, promote and entertain through film.

“I think people think of a film festival as twelve people watching black and white films in a basement,” said Blalack. “It’s really just the chance to see cool films before they are commercially available and mingle with the people who made them.”

Festival promoters are offering weekend passes to the entire festival for $10 with preorder from the website, reddirtfilmfestival.org, in the month of August. This year’s festival will include panels, contest and parties in addition to the screenings and award ceremony. Special guests will be announced later this summer.

New this year, screenwriters are invited to submit screenplays for Best Short Script (up to 45 pages) and Best Feature Screenplay for the first Red Dirt International Film Festival Screenplay Competition. This competition coincides with the film festival and will give authors a chance to get professional feedback on their work.

Free weekend passes are available for volunteers age 16 and older. Volunteers may sign-up at reddirtfilmfestival.org.

Screenwriters may submit their screenplays through August 31 to filmfreeway.com  or withoutabox.com.
